According to several reports, the organization is searching for a veteran presence to support the rookie quarterback they could select in the 2026 draft. Justin Fields never fully became the player head coach Aaron Glenn and the front office expected him to be.
JJ McCarthy left many doubts during his performances, which could push the franchise to bring in strong competition. In such a scenario, Tagovailoa could even challenge for the starting job and potentially provide the team with a more experienced option for the 2026 campaign.
Kyler Murray is expected to leave the organization, which would create a major opening at quarterback. That vacancy could be filled by Tagovailoa, as the franchise urgently needs a dependable presence at the most important position on the field.
