Luka Doncic has become the latest professional sportsman in the United States to suffer a robbery at his family home, a criminal act that in Europe is repeated quite assiduously at the homes of footballers when they are playing a match. According to a police report obtained by the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas home was broken into on Friday and $30,000 worth of jewellery was stolen. As for Doncic and his family, fortunately they are unharmed.
The house had private security
According to the police report, an unknown individual broke the master bedroom window and stole the jewelry between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., at around the same time that the Mavs were playing in Phoenix, in a game in which Luka did not play due to injury. The Slovenian’s home had private security, but it is unclear if they were there prior to the burglary.
“There was nobody in the house at the time and, thankfully, Luka and his family are safe”. He filed a police report and an investigation is ongoing

Third NBA player’s house robbed in four months
This is not the first time an NBA player has suffered a home burglary like this. In September, the home of Timberwolves guard Mike Conley was burglarized while he was attending an NFL game and several pieces of jewelry were stolen from him. Then, in November, the home of Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis was also burglarized while he was at a game and he claimed that several valuable possessions were stolen from him.
“The FBI has linked some thefts to ‘South American transnational theft groups’ that are ‘sophisticated and seemingly well-organized networks

After the incident with Portis, the NBA sent a memo to its team’s executives about home security. The Associated Press obtained a copy and it turns out that South American thieves may have been involved in the incident: “The FBI has linked some burglaries to ‘South American transnational theft groups’ that are ‘sophisticated and seemingly well-organized networks incorporating advanced techniques and technologies, including pre-surveillance, drones and signal-jamming devices.'”
According to the FBI, theft networks ‘focus primarily on cash and items that can be resold on the black market, such as jewelry, watches and luxury handbags

“The NBA memo, which relays information from the FBI, says the theft networks ‘primarily focus on cash and items that can be resold on the black market, such as jewelry, watches and luxury handbags‘”, according to Associated Press.
NFL stars also affected
NBA players are not the only ones in the spotlight. NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow have had their homes broken into and it is clear that sportsmen need to beef up security. They have become easy targets because everyone knows their work schedule and perhaps teams should take some steps to help their players.
