The Patriots stand firm against the Eagles regarding A.J. Brown; Philadelphia is thinking it over

AJ Brown has become one of the most coveted targets for several NFL franchises. One of the teams pushing the hardest to acquire him is the New England Patriots, who, following the departure of Stefon Diggs, are in urgent need of a veteran wide receiver capable of producing strong numbers immediately.

There have already been preliminary talks between the two teams to explore a potential deal. However, the Eagles rejected New England’s first offer, and that decision appears to have stalled negotiations between the franchises for now.

The Patriots are desperate for a quality receiver

It is widely acknowledged that AJ Brown has not felt comfortable in Philadelphia for at least a year and a half. His frustration has become increasingly visible, particularly with the offensive decisions that have reduced his role as the team has shifted toward a more balanced attack.

In fact, his differences with quarterback Jalen Hurts have grown more noticeable, and his production has declined considerably. It is also worth remembering that Brown has never hidden his preference for individual excellence over simply blending into a team-first system.

Despite those circumstances, the Patriots are eager to bring him into their roster so he can become the preferred target for Drake Maye during the upcoming 2026 season. Additionally, head coach Mike Vrabel is already familiar with Brown from their time together with the Tennessee Titans.

NEW: From what I’m told earlier today, at some point in the latest talks between the #Eagles and #Patriots, an adjustment to a multi-asset asking price was floated.”… “However, New England’s maintained (so far**) they’re not giving up a first-round pick for AJ Brown, per league source.

Reports emerging from Philadelphia suggest the Patriots offered a package that included a first-round selection along with a third-round pick. Nevertheless, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman reportedly decided that the proposal was not enough to move forward with a deal.

According to information shared by Mike Garofolo, what Philadelphia is seeking instead is a package that includes both a first- and second-round selection. However, everything indicates that New England remains unwilling to surrender a first-round pick in exchange for the wide receiver.

With both sides maintaining such firm positions, it currently appears difficult for the negotiations to find a clear path forward. Still, circumstances in the league can change quickly, and discussions could soften over time, allowing both franchises to reach a compromise that satisfies their respective interests.

These are AJ Brown’s numbers.

  • 6 seasons with 1,000+ yards
  • 524 receptions
  • 2 teams: Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans

For now, the road remains rocky, but it could eventually begin to smooth out, turning into a clear highway that allows negotiations to reach a successful conclusion in the near future between both franchises involved.
