Another one from “Zuma,” this jangly pop-rocker was adapted from “I Wonder,” a song Young wrote as a teenager and later released on the first volume of his archives project.

The night’s biggest surprise was this deep cut from Young’s great, admirably uncompromising 1974 solo album, “On the Beach.” Its caustic sendup of the oil industry — “I’m a vampire, babe, sell you 20 barrels worth” — is quite appropriate for a tour called Love Earth and, sadly, is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago.

This country-rocker from “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” prompted one of the night’s most satisfying crowd singalongs.

Guy desperately yelling “Powderfinger”: Your time has come. Any time Young and Crazy Horse play this blazing elegy — which many people, including this one, believe to be one of his finest songs — it’s going to be a highlight, and Tuesday night’s set was no exception. There is a particular delight in hearing Young, nearing 80, sing the line, “And I just turned 22.”

The mood turned muted and intimate when Young switched to an acoustic guitar for a solo portion of the set, beginning with this pensive title track from his 1978 album (performed here on 1979’s “Live Rust”).

The bad news: The sound system cut out about two minutes into this one. The good news: Young diffused the awkward moment by doing a funny little jig.
