Neymar Jr. has shown that he wants to play in one more World Cup, but he has also shown his more human side. The Brazilian star returned to the pitch with Santos FC after several weeks out due to surgery on his left knee.
He came off the bench in the second half of the 6-0 win over Associao Esportiva Velo Clube Rioclarense in the Paulistao Championship and provided an assist for Gabigol in the 81st minute, but the focus of attention turned to his post-match gesture to his daughter.
Neymar thrills soccer fans
Neymar had not played a match since December 7 last year, his last game being against Cruzeiro in the final round of the Brasileiro Championship. Days later, he underwent knee surgery on December 22, 2025, to treat a medial meniscus injury.
Since then, the Santos player has been doing everything possible to return to the game and be in optimal condition to perform for his team and the World Cup.
However, the player, who will turn 34 before the tournament, has shown his paternal and more human side, and on his return to the pitch, Ney starred in an emotional moment after the match against Velo Clube, away from the spotlight and the pressure of the game.
When the referee blew the final whistle and sealed Santos’ qualification for the quarterfinals of the Paulistao, Neymar looked out into the crowd for his daughter Mavie to greet her and send her his love. He also greeted and took photos with young fans who were waiting for him and supporting his return.
Fans quickly made their presence known and left messages for Neymar: “The only player who has the most loyal fans,” “Love is in the air,” “Neymar to the world,” they commented.
Neymar is the father of four children. His eldest son is Davi Lucca, from his relationship with Carolina Dantas. He later had Mavie and Mel with his partner Bruna Biancardi, and he is also the father of Helena, from a brief relationship with Amanda Kimberlly.
Meanwhile, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Brazil will be in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. They will make their debut against Morocco on Saturday, June 13, at the New Jersey Stadium in New York.
However, Carlo Ancelotti has not yet released the official squad list, and Neymar’s presence in the tournament is one of the biggest uncertainties.
While his future is being decided, Neymar and Santos FC will face Gremio Novorizontino in the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Paulista on Saturday, February 21.
