TNT Sports to sue Amazon over NBA media rights bidding war: ‘We matched their offer’

The NBA just changed the media outlet in which they will stream all of their games afternext season, the lucky company that won the bidding war is Amazon. But there are multiple issues that need to be addressed about this deal that was struck, specifically about TNT Sports‘ say in all of this. To those who are not aware, that was the place for the NBA for many years before they decided to switch them for Amazon. But for TNT Sports, the bidding war isn’t over because they have all the intention to take legal action against Amazon and the NBA if necessary. According to what they saw, the NBA ignored the matched offer from Amazon they had the right to make.

TNT Sports will sue Amazon for breach of contract

Inside the contract that TNT Sports had with the NBA, the company claims there is a section where the other party that is making a different bid for the league’s media rights needs to step down if the current holder matches the offer. According to TNT Sports, that is exactly what happened and Amazon did not respect this part of the contract. The reaction from TNT Sports came through a media release wherethey explained what happened and the reason they will take legal action against Amazon. There is still no confirmation or reaction to this statement from the streaming company or the NBA.

TNT Sports wrote: “We have matched the Amazon offer, as we have a contractual right to do, and do not believe the NBA can reject it. In doing so, they are rejecting the many fans who continue to show their unwavering support for our best-in-class coverage, delivered through the full combined reach of WBD’s video-first distribution platforms — including TNT, home to our four-decade partnership with the league, and Max, our leading streaming service. We think they have grossly misinterpreted our contractual rights with respect to the 2025-26 season and beyond, and we will take appropriate action. We look forward, however, to another great season of the NBA on TNT and Max including our iconic ‘Inside the NBA’.”
