Tom Brady went to Sacramento for business, but his presence quickly carried meaning beyond the opening of a new store.

The former NFL star was in town to mark the launch of his memorabilia brand, CardVault, and while the event itself followed a familiar promotional script, the setting and the message turned it into something more layered.

When one of the most recognisable figures in modern sports steps into an NBA environment, even briefly, people tend to listen closely.

The launch took place at DOCO, the downtown complex beside Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.

Brady greeted fans, posed for photos and later made his way inside the arena, where he was seen taking pictures with the Kings cheerleaders.

Sacramento, not Los Angeles or San Francisco, was selected as CardVault’s first California location, and Brady made it clear the choice was deliberate.

“We thought strategically about where we wanted to open, and Sacramento was the first spot,” Brady explained during an interview. “I know how Sacramento loves its sports teams. And even when things aren’t going exactly the way fans want, they still show up. There’s incredible passion here.”

The words struck a chord because they reflected a reality locals know well. Sacramento’s relationship with the Kings has been built on persistence. Success has been rare, frustration common, yet the bond between the team and the city has never fully fractured.

A city shaped by patience and belief

Since Vivek Ranadive took ownership of the franchise in 2013, the Kings have experienced both stability and stagnation.

The construction of a new downtown arena secured the team’s future in Sacramento and ended years of uncertainty that once threatened relocation. That achievement alone reshaped the franchise’s standing off the court.

On the court, the progress has been uneven. The Kings have reached the playoffs only once during Ranadive‘s tenure, in 2023.

The years in between were marked by coaching changes, roster turnover and extended rebuilding phases that tested even the most devoted supporters. Despite that, Sacramento’s fans continued to show up, earning a reputation around the league for consistency and energy regardless of results.

When the team finally broke through during the Light the Beam era, the response felt less like a brief celebration and more like a release. It reminded the league how much potential still exists in a market that has never stopped caring.

Brady already holds ownership interests in other sports ventures, and his growing influence has made fans accustomed to reading between the lines.

Seeing him inside Golden 1 Center, praising Sacramento’s loyalty and aligning his brand with the city, naturally led to questions about whether his connection could deepen in the future.
