The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are tied for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history, each with six Lombardi Trophies. However, the Patriots have dominated the 21st century, winning all six of their titles since 2001. A key part of this dynasty was the trio of Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski. Now retired and working in media, Gronk and Edelman recently launched a podcast called “Dudes” where they shared some behind-the-scenes stories about their time with Brady.
Gronk and Edelman’s Biggest Gripes with Brady
In this new podcast,Gronk and Edelman talked about the times Brady made them the angriest when the three of them were with the New England Patriots. Julian told about a special teams play, something Brady never did as a rookie, where he scolded him, while Gronk doesn’t seem to get mad much, but what a funny anecdote to tell. Gronk said that once as a rookie, Brady threatened him in front of the whole team, but it made him want more and try to be better. Even when they were mad at him, they said he made them better.
Edelman rightly mentions that Brady never played special teams, so of course his scolding made him angry, how do you complain to someone without knowing how to do it. I understand that Brady has seen thousands of punt returns in his career, but complaining to a rookie with Edelman’s temperament sure made Julian mad. The one Gronk tells is more of a motivational message he received than an anger he had, Gronk being Gronk. As for the new podcast, I don’t think it will be long before Bill Bellichick, who is a regular on other shows, will be on the show. As will Tom Brady, who is already a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and has other responsibilities that will interfere with his current job as a broadcaster at FOX.
Julian and Gronk’s years in New England
During his nine seasons with the Patriots, Gronkowski faced numerous injuries that likely prevented him from reaching even greater heights. Nevertheless, he won three Super Bowls and set the single-season record for touchdowns by a tight end (18). He amassed 521 receptions, 7,861 yards, and 80 touchdowns in 100 games with the Patriots. Those who watched him play know that it wasn’t just the stats that were impressive, but his sheer dominance on the field, a level that even Kelce, despite his extraordinary career, has yet to match. Julian Edelman, remembered for that incredible catch in the Super Bowl against the Falcons, also suffered through injuries, but in his 11 years in Boston, he amassed 7235 total yards, 36 touchdowns, and 620 receptions in 137 games. Like Gronk, he won three Super Bowls in New England but he is the MVP of Super Bowl LIII against the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.
