The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted Nikko Remigio to their active roster as Mecole Hardman Jr. lands on the injured reserve list in another blow to Patrick Mahomes’ struggling offense ahead of their clash with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Hardman has made 12 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown as well as rushing for 62 yards as the 26-year-old showcases his intelligence as a dual-threat through talents for catching the ball, as well as his explosive running power too.
But he finds himself sidelined with a knee injury just days before they take to the Arrowhead Stadium in a battle against the side currently second in the AFC West.
A trip to the injury reserve list means he will be out for a minimum of four games, meaning the earliest return date is Week 17’s clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, December 25.
Hardman, who caught the pass to win Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, has been one of a limited range of wide receivers available to the team in the ongoing NFL season following injuries to Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice in the receiver department alone.
Additional issues also struck down their running backs, Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire, whilst Travis Kelce has struggled to reach the high standards of his previous seasons too.
Who is Nikko Remigio?
So in his place steps Remigio, who was undrafted in 2023 before being signed by the Chiefs in that same year. The 25-year-old made 97 receptions for 903 yards, and 13 touchdowns and 14 carries for 75 yards through four years with the Californian Golden Bears and Fresno State.
He also added 983 return yards and a kick-off return touchdown during his time in college, also serving as a punter and subsequently named to the All-Mountain West Second-Team as a wide receiver and punt returner.
Remigio will look to star for the 11-1 Chiefs on December 8 against the 8-4 Chargers. The game kicks off at 20:20 ET/17:20 PT at the Arrowhead Stadium, live on NBC Sports.
