As the year comes to a close, so do the NFL and college football seasons. There’s one week left in the NFL regular season, while only a few bowl games and College Football Playoff matchups are left to play out. Once the two seasons wrap up, all eyes will turn to the 2025 NFL Draft, which is still some months away but brings with it plenty of intriguing storylines.
With quarterbacks becoming such a premium commodity in the NFL, franchises essentially clamor to get a top pick in any given draft in order to secure what they believe will be their “franchise quarterback“. Fans of those teams are practically begging their squads to lose their remaining games in order to get a better pick, but some teams have taken a different path. That includes the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders.
Sitting at the top of the draft order for several weeks, the Giants won on Sunday, while the Raiders have won two straight games. Those wins have knocked them back in the draft order, which is important because they are arguably the teams that most desperately need a quarterback. Who could this new development benefit? Travis Hunter.
New England Patriots hold top pick in 2025 NFL Draft with one week left
As it currently stands, the New England Patriots would have the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Since they took Drake Maye third overall last year, they don’t need a quarterback, which could pave the way for them to grab Hunter at No. 1 in April.
- New England Patriots: 3-13, .445 SOS
- Tennessee Titans: 3-13, .512 SOS
- Cleveland Browns: 3-13, .531 SOS
- New York Giants: 3-13, .535 SOS
- Jacksonville Jaguars: 4-12, .477 SOS
- Carolina Panthers: 4-12, .496 SOS
- New York Jets: 4-12, .500 SOS
- Las Vegas Raiders: 4-12, .539 SOS
In reality, the top three teams could choose to bypass the quarterback position. The Titans could opt to see what they have in Will Levis for another year, while the Browns have a big Deshaun Watson problem on their hands.
They, too, could draft Hunter if the Patriots go in a different direction or trade the top pick. All in all, this last week was a great one for Hunter’s odds of becoming the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
