Travis Kelce breaks silence on his production slump, puts ego aside in favor of Chiefs wins

Travis Kelce’s individual numbers have been noticeably lower than usual with the Kansas City Chiefs, causing some concern among fans.

Kelce, though, is making it clear that he’s not letting his stats affect his ego or the team’s goals.

Travis Kelce focused on team wins, not personal gains

Speaking on his New Heights podcast, Kelce addressed the drop in his production, having caught only eight passes for 69 yards so far in 2024.

Kelce claimed his reduced stats to how opposing defenses have adapted to playing against the Chiefs, making it tougher for him to find opportunities.

Despite this, he remains unfazed by his lower numbers, stating: “I’ve had a lot of catches in this league, man. I’m not worried about the catches and the yards and all that.”

Kelce emphasized that the primary focus is winning games, and as long as the Chiefs are successful, he’s not concerned about his personal stats or his ego.

“We’re good to go,” he said, referring to the Chiefs’ 3-0 start.

“It has everything to do with execution, just making sure we’re doing whatever we can to win these football games, man. That’s always going to be the goal.”

Kelce’s up & down production woes

The tight end’s performance struggles aren’t new.

Last season also saw some fluctuations in his output, but Kelce quickly silenced any critics with his contributions during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run.

And this season, even with fewer targets, he believes the team is heading in the right direction.

“We’re finding ways to win games, but we’re not playing our best football. Everybody can clean it up,” he admitted, reflecting on a crucial drop he made in a recent fourth quarter.

“I think everyone saw my drop in the fourth quarter with that crucial third down.”

In the same podcast, Kelce acknowledged that part of his struggles stem from defenses targeting him specifically.

“I think with how defenses are playing us right now, I’m not really getting a lot of opportunities to make plays down the field, but not using that as an excuse,” he explained, adding that he’s still working hard to improve and help the team win.

Despite the challenges, Kelce’s confidence remains high.

“Whatever it is, it’s football, baby! Come on now, I’m not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that,” he said, reiterating his commitment to the team’s overall success rather than focusing on personal accolades.
