Travis Kelce’s final decision nears and Taylor Swift may have to wait to forget the NFL

As of today, Travis Kelce’s future in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform is still an unanswered genuine question. However, a new wave of insider reports is pushing back against the retirement narrative that has dominated the offseason. While the world watches his great life with fiance Taylor Swift, the tight end appears to be leaning toward one more chapter on the gridiron.

Following a season where the Chiefs ended on a sour note, missing the playoffs with a 6-11 record, the saga is reaching its climax as free agency approaches in March and there are multiple decisions to take.

The possibilities of a last dance

While many assumed Kelce might follow his brother Jason into the sunset of retirement, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero dropped a major update this week that has ignited hope in Kansas City.

“My understanding is that they’ve already been in contract talks. It seems like this is trending toward Travis coming back and playing for Kansas City, but nothing is done until it’s done

Pelissero noted that while Kelce may no longer possess the speed of his youth, he remains a functional tight end for the team in its transition.

The Taylor Swift factor

Outside of football, Travis has also a lot of things going on, as Pelissero put it. His engagement to Taylor Swift and his improving media career with his podcast provide plenty of reasons to walk away. Reports suggest a mid-June wedding is on the horizon, but for now, the NFL is not yet in the rearview mirror.

Kelce admitted in January that he needed time to see how the body feels “when it all settles down.” With the legal league year set to begin on March 11, 2026, and head coach Andy Reid confirming that the lines of communication remain open, the settling down period has arrived.

If the current trend holds, fans and Swifties may have to wait one more year for Travis to leave the NFL behind for good.
