Tyreek Hill on the market: Could Patriots land the speedster after Dolphins cut?

The NFL offseason is already heating up following a dramatic shakeup that has left one of the game’s most explosive athletes on the open market. In a stunning move on Monday, the Miami Dolphins released star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, signaling a new direction for a franchise looking to reset under fresh leadership.

The decision saves Miami roughly $22.8 million against the salary cap and comes alongside other veteran departures as the team begins what insiders describe as a full roster overhaul.

Hill, known league-wide as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the sport, will enter free agency for the first time in his illustrious career. The 31-year-old has dealt with a significant knee injury-a dislocation and torn ACL sustained early in the 2025 season-that ended his campaign after just four games.

While his recovery has been progressing, questions about his long-term mobility and capacity to regain elite form have understandably become part of the conversation surrounding his next contract.

Over four seasons in Miami after being traded from the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill tallied impressive numbers, including over 4,700 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns, and led the league in key production categories at times. He also posted back-to-back seasons with more than 1,700 receiving yards early in his Dolphins tenure.

Yet injuries and off-field distractions tempered some of the extraordinary early promise he showed in South Florida. Hill‘s combination of speed, route-running precision, and ability to stretch the field has made him a constant deep-threat weapon wherever he has played.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Hill has already issued an optimistic message since his release, vowing that “The Cheetah will be back,” and expressing gratitude for his time with the Dolphins. Many analysts believe that Hill, if fully healthy, could still be a game-changer for teams looking for an instant offensive boost.

Robert Griffin III weighs in on Patriots’ opportunity

Amid this landscape of change, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III issued a noteworthy suggestion for the New England Patriots.

Coming off a disappointing Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and with questions surrounding rookie quarterback Drake Maye’s ability to consistently push the ball deep, Griffin took to X to urge New England to pursue the newly available wideout.

Griffin argued that Hill‘s unique blend of elite speed and playmaking ability would create dangerous mismatches for the Patriots’ offense, especially on deep throws, an area where Maye has been one of the most effective in the league.

Pairing Hill with current veteran Stefon Diggs could give New England a powerful receiving duo capable of stretching defenses and helping Maye develop into a more complete quarterback.

However, Hill‘s age and injury history remain concerns. As a soon-to-be 32-year-old recovering from major knee surgery, teams will need to weigh the potential rewards against the risks and his long-term durability.

Still, with Hill officially a free agent, the next chapter of his NFL journey is wide open-and every contender will be watching closely.
