Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is no stranger to controversy or to the attention of law enforcement. Hill pleaded guilty to domestic assault while he was in college and was later investigated over allegations of child abuse. Later, Miami-Dade Police investigated the star wideout for assault, and the player has been subject to paternity lawsuits and further civil litigation over an incident at his house last summer.
But now, Hill has another legal headache pending — and at a tough time, too, seeing as his Dolphins begin their hunt for a Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hill in handcuffs after “driving violation”
Hill was arrested by local authorities on Sunday morning, mere hours before Miami was due to play in-state rivals Jacksonville to begin the 2024 NFL season. Hill and veteran teammate Calais Campbell were spotted in handcuffs just outside the Dolphins’ home field, Hard Rock Stadium. And according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Hill was apprehended for a “traffic violation” — but he is not expected to miss the Week 1 clash with the Jaguars.
Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus was “distraught” over the situation involving his client, and he has called the sequence of events “mind-boggling“. That said, the incident in principle will not affect Hill’s status for the opener, even if it has produced unsavory images and videos.
Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards in 2023, spearheading a potent aerial attack with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and guiding Miami back to the playoffs for a second year running. Hill though was powerless to prevent the Dolphins from suffering a wild-card round loss to his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, in January.
