Zion Williamson’s ongoing injury troubles are once again derailing hopes for a breakout season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
After an optimistic start to 2024/25, Williamson’s availability has been cut short due to a hamstring strain sustained on November 6, sidelining him for an estimated four to six weeks.
The star forward has played in just six of the Pelicans’ 17 games this season, reigniting concerns about his long-term reliability.
A video of Williamson that surfaced on Friday added fuel to the fire, sparking fresh debate about his conditioning and readiness to handle the demands of an NBA season.
“Being an athlete and not being in shape lowkey disrespectful to the organization ngl,” a user wrote.
Another added: “Mans looked like he hasn’t worked out in months, Pelicans are just donating money to Zion at this point.”
“WHAT HAPPENED TO ZION?!?!?” a third wondered.
Williamson’s journey
Williamson, who was touted as a once-in-a-generation talent upon entering the league, has shown flashes of brilliance when healthy.
Drafted first overall in 2019, he brought immense expectations to New Orleans with his combination of size, athleticism, and skill. In his first full season, Williamson averaged more than 25 points per game, demonstrating why he was considered a cornerstone prospect.
However, persistent injuries have limited his time on the court, disrupting his ability to fully develop and contribute consistently.
The Pelicans have invested heavily in building a roster around Williamson, but his frequent absences have complicated the team’s plans.
Trade rumors have started to swirl, with reports linking him to teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, who have allegedly floated offers for the young star. This speculation highlights the growing uncertainty about his future in New Orleans.
