Was Shannon Sharpe paid to call LeBron James the GOAT?

A resurfaced clip featuring Fox Sports 1 host Joy Taylor playfully accusing former colleague Shannon Sharpe of being paid to call LeBron James the greatest of all time (GOAT) has reignited debates online.

The incident, which took place during an episode of Undisputed with Sharpe and Skip Bayless, was shared on social media, drawing mixed reactions from fans of the NBA superstar.

The clip was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Thetruth, an account known for its anti-LeBron narratives.

In the recording, Taylor humorously says, “I have some inside information as to why you’re saying LeBron [James] is the GOAT now. Shannon can be bought. His loyalty can be bought.”

Laughter from the hosts and crew can be heard, indicating the comment was made in jest. Despite this, some fans used the joke to criticize LeBron, while others defended both Sharpe and the four-time NBA champion.

The post also referenced NBA analyst Ric Bucher‘s claims that LeBron‘s management company, Klutch Sports, has influenced the media’s portrayal of the basketball star.

Sharpe, however, has been a vocal supporter of LeBron for years, often praising his abilities during his time on Undisputed.

The New Paths of the Former Undisputed Team

Since the 2018 shakeup on Undisputed, the show’s former hosts have moved on to different roles in sports media.

Joy Taylor left the program to join FS1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd as a news anchor. Today, she co-hosts Speak alongside LeSean McCoy and Emmanuel Acho.

Shannon Sharpe‘s departure from Undisputed came after a public spat with Skip Bayless in January 2023.

He soon transitioned to ESPN’s First Take, where he now engages in lively debates with Stephen A. Smith and Molly Querim, a pairing that has become a fan favorite.

Meanwhile, Bayless, known for his controversial takes, now hosts The Skip Bayless Show on YouTube, continuing to share his sports insights with his dedicated audience.

While the playful exchange between Taylor and Sharpe brought the LeBron GOAT debate back into the spotlight, it also highlights how each of the former Undisputed team members has evolved in their careers, continuing to shape the sports media landscape in unique ways.
