Xavier Worthy earning respect from NFL community
Worthy’s standout moment came when he posted a 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, marking him as the fastest player to ever participate.
However, his speed is just one facet of what makes him a valuable addition to the Chiefs.
Herm Edwards, a former head coach for the Chiefs, recently shared his thoughts on Worthy during an episode of ESPN’s “Get Up.”
Edwards highlighted Worthy’s potential to challenge defenses with his all-around abilities.
“There are a lot of guys that run fast like he has 4.2 speed, but some guys only have 5.2 hands,” Edwards noted.
“This guy can catch, actually, so that’s a problem. He can beat you vertically. He’s a guy that also when you think about the Kansas City Chiefs, it’s really catch after the run.”
Worthy’s track record at the University of Texas showcased his impressive breakaway speed, and Edwards believes he will seamlessly transition to the NFL.
“Mahomes is not a guy that’s going to sit back there and throw deep balls,” Edwards added.
“That’s not the Andy Reid offense. It’s more crossing routes, those kinds of deals where he can catch it and run. This guy has speed, along with Marquise Brown.”

Beyond his speed, Worthy is a refined route runner with a quick burst and fluid movement, making him a versatile threat.
His well-rounded skill set caught the attention of many teams before the NFL Draft, and now, with the Chiefs, he has the potential to make a significant impact.
Complementing fellow receivers Marquise Brown and Travis Kelce, Worthy could rejuvenate the Chiefs’ offense, aiming to return to their previous high-scoring form.
Head coach Andy Reid emphasized the potential for explosive plays with Worthy on the field.
“We’re calling kind of the same plays but he’s [Mahomes] got guys that that’s a part of their game,”Reid explained.
“The best part of their game is going down field so he’s utilizing that right now and testing it out, seeing how it works and so far he’s had some good connections there.”
With training camp underway, Worthy is already making an impression.
Chiefs fans eagerly anticipate seeing him in action as the team kicks off their preseason schedule on Aug. 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
