Zion Williamson’s girlfriend clears up questions over relationship status after recent suspension

Zion Williamson, the star forward of the New Orleans Pelicans, faced an unexpected setback just two games into his much-anticipated return to the court.

The 24-year-old was suspended for one game after arriving late for a team flight to Philadelphia. Amid the professional controversy, Williamson’s long-time girlfriend and mother of his child, Akheema Rose, took to social media to address the ongoing public attention surrounding their relationship.

Akheema Rose, a popular content creator with over 50,000 followers on Instagram, shared a pointed message about her decision to keep her personal life private. Known for occasionally offering glimpses into her life, Rose revealed she is done sharing details about her relationship with Williamson.

“I stop posting my relationship/private life cuz ya’ll nosey af… I’m @ peace in peace,” Rose posted on Instagram.

Rose further cautioned her followers, adding, “Stop inquiring,” in response to persistent questions about her private affairs. Many believe her post was prompted by the recent news of Williamson’s suspension, adding another layer of complexity to the high-profile athlete’s life.

Zion’s apology and the Pelicans’ response

Williamson’s suspension stemmed from his tardiness to the team flight, which caused him to miss the Pelicans’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers. David Griffin, the Pelicans’ Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, clarified the disciplinary action, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the team.

Taking full responsibility, Williamson issued a heartfelt apology.

“I’ve worked extremely hard in rehab to get healthy to deliver for this team. There is no excuse for being late to team activities. I have apologized to Mrs. Benson, my teammates, and coaches, and I also owe an apology to the fans.”

Despite his absence, the Pelicans secured a 123-115 victory over the 76ers. Williamson is expected to return on Monday when the team faces the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.

As Williamson aims to regain momentum on the court, his public apology and commitment to improvement reflect his determination to move past this setback and refocus on his role as a key player for the Pelicans.
