Serie A: Jürgen Klinsmann’s son breaks his neck in a match in Italy

Jonathan Klinsmann, son of German legend Jurgen Klinsmann, the former United States coach, had to be rushed to hospital in Italy after suffering a serious injury in Serie B. The American goalkeeper for Cesena was the negative protagonist of the clash against Palermo. He had to be stretchered off as the match neared its end, with the home side winning 2-0

In a 50-50 challenge, 29-year-old Klinsmann collided with Filippo Ranocchia, who struck the goalkeeper in the head with his leg, leaving him severely injured on the pitch. After being evacuated with a cervical collar, he was admitted to a hospital in Sicily.

Medical tests revealed that Klinsmann‘s son was suffering from a dangerous fracture of the first cervical vertebra. The delicate nature of the injury requires a slow recovery, so his season is obviously over, as the player himself confirmed via his Instagram account.

Jonathan Klinsmann’s message

“Unfortunately, my season ended on Saturday. During the game I suffered a fracture in my spine which will keep me out of action for a while. I want to thank everyone on the field and in the hospital here in Palermo, the fans of both @cesenafc and @palermofficial for the good wishes and of course my friends and family who have supported me over the last few days. Good luck to the boys in our fight for the playoffs and see you very soon,” he wrote on social media.
