Ben Simmons was shut down for the season by the Brooklyn Nets after he suffered a nerve impingement in his lower back after just playing 15 games this 2023-24 campaign, with yet another disappointing year for the Australian.

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Thursday that Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy performed by Dr. Timur Urakov in consultation with Dr. Barth Green at UHealth Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

However, despite this new setback for the Australian, according to The New York Post, Ben Simmons is expected to fully recover for next season’s training camp. The nerve impingement is now on the left side of his back, less severe than the original one in 2022.

Although Simmons isn’t a free agent until the summer of 2025, odds on what his team will be if he’s bought out before the upcoming season have already come out.

Simmons’ multiple back injuries continue to keep him off the floor since the Nets acquired him from the Philadelphia 76ers about two years ago.

He has also dealt with hip issues. When healthy, however, Simmons is an excellent addition on a young Nets team, especially off the bench.
