Caleb Williams makes history with the Chicago Bears without ever taking a regular season snap

The head coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Eberflus, has already revealed the players who will be the captains of the team for the 2024 season of the National Football League and among them appeared the rookie quarterback.

Caleb Williams was the first pick in the previous Draft, after being a superstar in the NCAA for the USC Trojans and before with the Oklahoma Sooners. He is now about to begin his professional career on the gridiron as a starter at 22 years old.

According to reports and research, this is the first time that the Bears franchise has chosen a rookie player to be a team captain, making history even before taking a snap as a professional in a regular season game.

It means a lot to Caleb Williams

Although Caleb Williams completed 50 percent of his passes in 2 preseason games on a total of 42 plays, he showed enough of his talent to be named the starter and the franchise’s leader for years to come.

“To be a great leader, you’ve got to learn how to follow first,” Williams told reporters in May. “So, right now I’m following all the vets, I’m following all the coaches. I’m listening, having both ears open and my mouth shut. Just kind of sitting back, listening. And when I get to the point of, when I learn everything, when I learn the ways of how we do it, the playbook, the culture, and what the offensive line, wide receivers are all doing, running backs, tight ends, and things like that, then you can start taking the lead. Then you can start taking the helm of all of it and take the next steps.”

His ability to throw on the move, as well as to elude defenses with his leg mobility, skills that he will undoubtedly be developing during his professional career, makes him a threat and everyone will get a chance to see that on Sunday, September 8, hosting the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field in Week 1.
