All ports have these star athletes who relish on being booed or being considered the villain, such is the case of Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. Sometime last season, Green was suspended for 17 straight games for getting into an altercation with Rudy Gobert. The video is historic at this point, Green just approached behind Gobert’s back and choked him. A behavior that pushed the NBA to force Draymond Green to attend mandatory counceling. Last Friday, Green was a guest on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and the host couldn’t resist asking Draymond about this behavior. Far from feeling any type of remorse, Green embraces this villain persona.
One of the explanation of his interactions with the therapist was eye-opening, it paints a great picture of what the player cares about the most. He said: “I’m like, ‘Hey, like, I keep getting suspended. I really got to get a grip on this.’. And he’s like all right, great… He’s like, ‘What’s your plan?’. And I’m like, ‘Well I’m just not going to talk to referees at all’… I’m like ‘Well, maybe I can find someone on our sideline, then explode on if I need to kind of, just get my words out.’. It’s like ‘Yeah the camera’s going to turn to you and the whole world going to think you’re losing your mind.”
Draymond Green is already close to retirement
At the end of the day, what matters for Draymond Green is the fact that he is already seasoned veteran who does have a temper problem but he would care much more if he didn’t already have four NBA Championship rings. As he enters the final stage of his career, Green is slowly becoming that grumpy uncle who gets wild during family events. Clearly, there seems to be no indication he will change his attitude before he retires solely based on this interaction with Jimmy Kimmel.
