I’m not sure I’ve ever been more excited for an interview than I was for my paired interview with Kurt and Wyatt Russell. Kurt is one of the greatest actors of all time, and he just has an insane amount of charisma. Wyatt has also slowly grown into one of my favorite actors who has become a mark of quality for his projects (outside of Night Swim, of course). So it’s been so cool to see the two team up for a series, let alone one that’s set in the Godzilla/Kong universe.
I chatted with the Russells about the new season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and what it’s like to get to play the same character. They’ve famously turned down many father/son roles over the years, so this really goes to show how important Ian Shaw is to them as a character. They also get into whether or not they’d be interested in seeing Shaw be brought to the big screen in those MonsterVerse films. Wyatt also teases a bit about his Shaw spinoff series, which starts filming soon. This was a great chat, so be sure to check it out.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 plot:
Season two picks up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village called Santa Soledad in Chile 1957 where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is currently airing every Friday on Apple TV.
