LeBron James reacts to Dan Hurley and rumors linking him as new Lakers’ head coach

We’re about to get started with the NBA Finals and the Los Angeles Lakers still don’t have a head coach. Ironically, LeBron James‘ former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers also are without one, while the four other teams with openings this offseason have already hired someone.

Everything has pointed to JJ Redick being handed the reins to the Lakers ship, but reports emerged on Thursday that the front office is eyeing someone with a lot more coaching experience. UConn’s Dan Hurley has seemingly become the favorite in the eyes of the Lakers brass.

Could LeBron James’ decision to play with Bronny jeopardize his final years?

LeBron James would seemingly welcome Dan Hurley to Lakers

Whether Hurley makes the jump after two-consecutive National Championship triumphs or not, James might end up making him a pitch if his previous sentiments are anything to go off of.

With James’ backing, the front office could be enticed to throw the bag at Hurley. Hurley is currently making $5.25 million per season at Conncectictut. That’s the sixth-highest number in the nation.

Although he’s likely due for a raise soon, being the sixth-highest paid coach in the NBA would net him $8 million or more per year. It would be a leap to pay Hurley that much given he hasn’t coached in the NBA before, but the Lakers are desperate and Hurley has all the leverage. That could be enough to persuade him.
