Pep Guardiola takes on Patrick Mahomes and becomes a Boston Celtics fan in the NBA Finals

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola enjoyed the first game of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday in Boston (USA).

Guardiola sat in the front row of the TD Garden and wore a black Celtics sweatshirt.

The coach had already been spotted in Boston on Wednesday, where he was seen chatting with Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla. Guardiola returned Mazzulla‘s visit in February when he went to Manchester (UK) to meet the Premier League champions for the last four years.

The two coaches then posed for a picture of Mazzulla in a light blue Manchester City jersey with the number 21, while Guardiola wore a green Boston Celtics jersey with the number 4.

Just this Wednesday, during media day prior to the start of the NBA Finals, Mazzulla was asked at a press conference about “the value” he sees in “learning from non-basketball coaches and studying successful people in other sports.”

“I think the things that lead to success are the same. You’re in locker rooms, no matter what sport it is, or even when you’re in a company and everybody says the same thing,” the Boston coach said.

“Toughness, unity, connection, the mentality you bring. It’s the same thing. It’s a matter of just getting the right group of people in the right place and then trying to feed that mentality every day. You can learn from anything and everything. You try to be as open-minded as you can,” he added.
