Shaquille O’Neal has fuelled rumors that he could planning a surprise move into acting after he was spotted on the set for a new TV series.

The NBA icon, 52, was spotted on Coney Island, New York, on Friday filming the epic Brooklyn-set crime series ‘Gravesend’ – and it appears he will be getting a fair amount of screen time if reports are accurate.

The former Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers great was seen shooting the show’s upcoming third season at Larry’s Auto Radiator Repair on Neptune Avenue with ‘Gravesend’ creator and star William DeMeo and Joseph D’Onofrio.

According to the New York Post, rappers Peter Gunz and Maino were also present and filming alongside ‘Shaq‘, while former Pittsburgh Steelers player James Harrison also making a cameo.

A source close to the production revealed what role O’Neal would be playing in the series, hinting at some decent screen time for the NBA icon.

Shaq is introduced this season as the character Mustafa – a powerful man who runs Bed-Stuy. The gangsters from Bed-Stuy and Gravesend come together,” the unnamed source told the outlet.

Fans soon flocked to the set when they realized who was in the area, witnessing the four-time NBA champion in the flesh during an action-packed scene.

“The day started with Shaq doing a scene on the roof… the crowds in the streets were stopping screaming for him, cars were honking, ambulances, fire trucks were sounding off sirens as they witnessed him in action,” the source added.

What other shows has Shaquille O’Neal featured in?

It wouldn’t be the first time O’Neal has featured on America’s TV screens.

He has a long list of television credits, including hit shows ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, ‘My Wife and Kids’ and ‘The Parkers’. O’Neal has also appeared in films including ‘Kazaam’ and ‘Scary Movie 4’.

Also appearing on the show this season are ‘Rocky’ star Talia Shire and ‘The Sopranos’ mainstays Vincent Curatola and Dominic Chianese.

There is no indication yet when the new season will be released, but the promise of seeing ‘Shaq‘ may just bring a new section of fans to the show.
