The fight to be Rayados’ new coach: Miguel Herrera vs the Argentine armada

Without the possibility of reaching the Liguilla of the Clausura 2026, Rayados are already planning for the next tournament, and the priority is to secure their next head coach, a position that became vacant after the dismissal of Domenec Torrent and where Nico Sanchez did not meet expectations

The Monterrey board, which is said to be led by Dennis te Kloese, already has four candidates to be the coach, with the possibility of Miguel Herrera, who would compete with three Argentines: Matias Almeyda, Hernan Crespo and Martin Anselmi

The possible coaches of Rayados de Monterrey in 2026

According to Felipe Galindo, there are four candidates to take the helm of ‘La Pandilla’ for the Apertura 2026. One Mexican coach and three of Argentine nationality

“The Albiazul board is already analysing profiles and has initiated formal contacts with different coaches, making it clear that the 2026-2027 sporting project is an absolute priority,” said the RG La Deportivo and Multimedios reporter

In Rayados’ folder there are four names, three of them with experience in Liga MX such as Matias Almeyda, Martin Anselmi, Miguel Herrera, and another that is very attractive, such as Hernan Crespo after his work with Sao Paulo

Matias Almeyda: The Argentine already knows the demands of coaching in Mexico after shining with Chivas, and if in the past he turned down offers from Liga MX to fulfill his dream of Europe, after his dismissal from Sevilla he would look favorably on the proposal from Monterrey, especially knowing that he would have a large portfolio to strengthen the squad

Martin Anselmi: His departure from Cruz Azul is not well seen, but the offer from Porto was one that few could refuse. After the failure with the ‘Blue Dragons’ and with Botafogo, there is no doubt that the Argentine would be an interesting option in Monterrey, especially because of the possible project with his own style that fit perfectly in Liga MX during his time with ‘La Maquina’

Miguel Herrera: The name of the ‘Piojo’ also appeared on Rayados’ list; however, his arrival seems complicated since he would have his arrival at Atlante. In this way, he would move away from living a second stage in Monterrey, with whom he reached the final of the Apertura 2004 and Clausura 2005, losing in both tournaments

“Rayados has already made contact with all the candidates mentioned, waiting to define the sporting project that will set the course for the team,” said Felipe Galindo, so the high command of Monterrey will be responsible for making the decision.
