Responding to David Njoku‘s recent praise, where Njoku called Travis Kelce “one of the nicest individuals” he has ever met, the Kansas City Chiefs star credited his friendly personality to his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce. The 34-year-old tight end discussed this during a media session at the Chiefs minicamp on Tuesday.
Praised his parents
Kelce had recently participated in Njoku‘s Celebrity Softball charity game in Eastlake, Ohio, on Saturday, June 8, where he emerged victorious.
“[Njoku’s] one of a kind, man, and I’m so excited for his upcoming season,” Kelce noted.
“I appreciate him saying those kind words but, you know, I like to say my father would slap me silly if I was any other way.
“Sometimes you just gotta straighten up and do the right things. And I think over the course of my life, I’ve found that being kind and being genuine and being who I am and true to that, it’s the right way to live.
“My mom and my dad are the reason I’m always a friendly guy.”
A clip from the event shows Kelce celebrating enthusiastically after hitting a home run, throwing down his bat and jumping up and down while waving his arms at the crowd and shouting, “Let’s go!”
“I know I’m 34 years old, about to be 35, but I have a love to do this right here,” he added.
“In the middle of the heat in June, I love coming to work every single day and I’m going to do it ’til the wheels fall off.”
