After all the drama, Tee Higgins is staying in Cincinnati, at least for now

The nightmare has ended, for now. wide receiver Tee Higgins finally reached an agreement with the Cincinnati Bengals to take the franchise tag for next season. According to reports, the wide out decided to accept the tag on Saturday as he enters his fifth year in the NFL, which would open the doors for him to return to training.

During training camp, Higgins was not present due to a lack of agreement, but there was no concern within the team because he was expected from the beginning to stay. Drama was not excluded though, as the star Bengals weapon wanted more money and a long-term deal, that last part has not occurred yet.

With the deal, Higgins will earn $21.8 million this season thanks to the tag, but now, he can negotiate with the Bengals again to reach that long-term deal he desires. All this before the July 15 deadline, although he is expected to remain a franchise player at least for the remainder of the football year.

Tee Higgins is still a high caliber player

Although Tee Higgins suffered from injuries last year, he has become one of the key players for the Bengals, since in his first four seasons, he totaled 3,684 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns.

Next on the Bengals’ list is Ja’Marr Chase, who is in negotiations to reach a new agreement, although he was present at minicamp. He would like to receive a big deal as well, after his production and what the wide receiver is looking for to secure his future.

Eight different receivers have signed new deals worth at least $23 million per season since the start of free agency on March 13. The wide receiving core includes three extensions worth at least $30 million annually, including Justin Jefferson becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, something that will definitely change the perspective of the deals for the position.
