The NBA Finals are the championship series of games that the two best teams from each conference face each other for the NBA Championship trophy. This year, the Dallas Mavericks made it all the way to the finals but they are already losing 0-2 against the Boston Celtics. Game three of the series will take place on Wednesday at the American Airlines Center in the city of Dallas, TX. To people who constantly follow the NBA, we already know the system they use for their finals format but casual fans only pay attention during the finals. So it’s natural they wonder about things like, how many games are played in the NBA Finals?

The NBA Finals and the World Series share a similar format of the first to win four games wins. This automatically takes the series to a 7 games maximum that would only happen if each team reached three victories across six games. According to the rulebook, the first seed of the entire regular season is the one that gets the hypothetical fourth game at home that gives them the edge of having their fans with them. Right now, the Boston Celtics are the ones that have this advantage and the third game will take place in Dallas. Say the Mavs win two in a row, that would bring the score to 2-2 and still potentially three more games to enjoy.

The absolute minimum that the NBA Finals last is a total of four games, which is also a very possible scenario right now as the Celtics only need two more victories to win the trophy. Hopefully, we can all get a little more excitement from Dallas and we get those two victories that don’t make these finals seems as one-sided as they’ve been so far. But yeah, ideally we would all expect for the NBA Finals to go until the seventh game. Fingers crossed that happens and we get a better series.
