Referee Sean Corbin’s fit of rage: three ejected at once in Pelicans vs. Magic

Sean Corbin was like a shooter who gets a hot wrist and goes on a hot streak in his last refereeing performance. In his case, since he can’t score baskets, he started ejecting players. Three in just a few seconds, and his victims were Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III and Dyson Daniels, all of the Pelicans, whom he sent to the locker room in the final seconds of their game against the Magic (108-117 loss).

Corbin began making technical and disqualifying gestures after a Paolo Banchero dunk to make the score 106-114 with eight seconds remaining. With no play or violent action involved, all indications are that there were serious protests or insults.

The Pelicans bench, led by coach Willie Green, and the fans were in disbelief. Franz Wagner converted the next three shots to secure the win for the Magic.

“I get it: we feel like other teams are getting it and our guys are frustrated by that. Rightfully so. But in the end we have to stay calm,” Green said.

“I’ve never seen that before. I’m not going to say we were the reason it happened, but I think our game definitely frustrates you a little bit,” said Banchero, the Pelicans‘ 32-point tormentor.
